Many of us have a bunch of old photos that are fading with age and losing their color; and maybe sometimes defaced like the one above. We can copy your old pictures, make digital copies of the photos and create restorations if wanted. You can download the copies direct from our website or we can supply the copies on CD or DVD. Or we can make a DVD slide show that tells a story from a series of photos. Stories that can be passed on to relatives and future generations using CD or DVD copies that can be easily made.
Professional Restoration:
Do it now or do it later...
copy the old photo now before its too late... restoration can
be done at some later date. Restoration is a time
consuming process. You tell us how much time you want
spent and how "perfect" you want the restoration. For
example... the restoration of the photo above took one hour...
it's not "perfect" but was what the customer ordered. We
could have spent 5 hours instead of one and the result would
not be that much better (unless you enlarged the photo and
looked "really close").
Professional Cleaning:
All photos we copy are professionally
cleaned before being copied to remove debris and dust particles. Our
photo cleaning process is a time consuming 4 step manual process. First the
photo is lightly brushed with a static free
tissue, then a burst of dry air is applied, the photo is then wiped
with a special antistatic brush of soft natural hair with a polonium
ionizer element, and again a burst of dry air to render the photo as free as
possible of dust, lint and debris. If you are considering
other companies to do your photo copying; ask them how they clean
the photos before they are copied!
Copying without
cleaning?
No, we will not copy your photos without cleaning.
Some of our competitors copy photos without cleaning which means they can charge
a little less. We feel this is very "short-sited"... we feel you should
pay a little more and have a copy from which you can print an enlargement if
wanted. If you try to print an enlargement from a copied photo that has
dust particles, the enlarged print will make the dust particles look like
"boulders". However, if all you
want to do it view your photos on TV (via DVD), or on your computer (via CD or
DVD), then maybe the "uncleaned photo" service is for you. Viewing
photos
on your TV does not require a high quality copy and your TV won't display the
dust that may be on them because of its low resolution.
"Digital ICE" and
other automatic scratch-dust-defect removal systems:
We seldom use
"Digital ICE" and other automatic retouching processes because
they often have the effect of softening the image to an unacceptable degree. If
photo editing/retouching is needed, we prefer to retouch the photo image using Adobe
Photoshop manual repair.
Satisfaction Guaranteed:
If any photo copied is not to your satisfaction you have three choices... (1) we
will refund payment for that photo (or photos); (2) we will do an automatic
scratch-dust-defect removal process on that photo (or photos) at no extra
charge; or (3) retouch the image (or images) using Adobe Photoshop (see
retouching charges below).
How our copied photos are furnished:
We can provide you the digital images of your copied photos in several
different ways.
(1) Place them on the
Internet in a private folder and then provide you with the folder name
(which is password protected) so
you can download them direct to your computer.
(2) Provide them to you on a CD in random order, or in a specific order
that you prescribe.
(3) Provide them to you in a DVD slideshow movie.
Pricing:
Our pricing is ala
carte... add up what you need below and that will be your cost.
If we find a photo that needs special retouching we will eMail
you a recommendation of what is needed along with specific costs.
Payment for all services can be made
as detailed on our order page.

CD or DVD Labeling:
The CD or DVD furnished above will be text labeled, at no charge,
with the data you provide... a title, date the CD/DVD is made,
your name, etc. (wording of your choice up to 80 characters). If you want pictures or artwork added to the
label please visit our
CD/DVD
labeling page for details.
Shipping your photos to us:
We realize the value of your personal photos... they are indeed
priceless. However, shippers can lose things. We
suggest insuring your package at a significant value and always
use guaranteed delivery tracking. Shippers tend to take
better care of insured and tracked packages. Pack the photos
carefully and place them in a strong box that cannot be easily
crushed. Do not send photos in an envelope (they might
get folded).
Photos returned
to you will be insured and shipment tracked. Or, drop
them off and pick the copies up at the address shown above and
save shipping charges.
What we require:
When you send us photos to be copied there are several requirements
that must be followed:
(1) If you want the photo copies furnished in a specific order each photo
must be numbered (or named) with the number or name clearly printed on the
photo (or use a sticker on the back); and the specific order furnished.
(3) If the digital copies are to be furnished to you as an automatic DVD slide/movie
show, please give us the order in which they are to be placed and
the time delay between slides (we use a time delay of 7
seconds if not advised otherwise; if you want to watch any slide longer simply use your DVD player pause
control). If you want background music, and/or voice narrative, added to the DVD slide/movie show; please provide us the music
and/or narrative on CD or record
or tape.
(4) We will not scan pornographic or "objectionable as
determined by us" photo images.
(6) Read the "legality
notice" regarding copying.
A discussion of technical stuff:
All photos we copy are copied at 600dpi. You may be wondering why we copy
slides at 4800dpi and copy photo prints at only 600dpi... good question.
Photos are rarely printed at more that 600dpi so there is no reason to copy them
at a higher resolution. Copying at a higher resolution would create a
larger file without providing any more information. In fact, copying at a
higher resolution can introduce spurious information that actually degrades the
picture quality. Some photo copy
companies copy at only 300dpi... we feel this is a mistake because if you ever
want to make a large print from the digital copy the 300dpi copy will appear
"grainy". Slides, by the way have a resolution of 4096dpi which is why we
copy them at 4800dpi. You may want to read more discussion of dpi (and
ppi) on our slide copy page.
45 day or permanent Internet backup:
We keep a temporary 45-day
digital backup of every photo copied. We can reconstruct and re-burn a CD
or DVD
in the extremely rare event of it being lost or damaged during return shipment.
After
the 45 day backup period, all files associated with your order are
permanently deleted. We do not keep a backup of your photos in
any form. However, if you would like a backup of your copied photos placed
in a secure password protected Internet file we can provide that service as
shown on the price sheet above. You can access your Internet backup file
at any time to make additional copies.
